From estate farm to a much-loved holiday park, our story spans generations of family, care, and a passion for welcoming guests.

After the Second World war, Harold Borlase farmed Swiss Farm as a tenant of the Fawley Court Estate. He later purchased the land in 1955, as many estates were being sold across the country. During this time, parts of the farm housed Londoners displaced by bombing, and later welcomed them and many others back as holidaymakers. Many stored their ex-Army bell tents in the barns, returning each year. Though still a working farm, Swiss Farm was already beginning to feel like a place for holidays and homecomings.

In the early 1970s, Stephen took over from his father Harold and brought fresh energy to Swiss Farm. While running a successful poultry business with over 23,000 chickens, along with cattle and arable farming, Stephen began to see the growing potential of camping and holidays. He invested in the future of the park, building key facilities including the swimming pool, toilet blocks, and a social club, many of which are still in use today. As small-scale farming became increasingly challenging, the holiday side of the business steadily took centre stage. Stephen’s vision laid the groundwork for the modern park, turning Swiss Farm into a welcoming destination for generations of visitors.

As poultry farming became less viable, Swiss Farm shifted focus again—this time offering secure storage for cars, boats, and household goods. In the late 1990s, a major barn fire caused significant damage, destroying stored vehicles, vintage boats, and personal belongings. Fire crews worked tirelessly for four days to bring it under control, drawing water from the lake and pool and using the park as a base. Though unintentional, this caused further disruption to the business, and the aftermath required months of clean-up. While it was a difficult time, the fire marked a turning point, leading to renewed investment and a fresh chapter in Swiss Farm’s evolution.

Following the fire and with Stephen’s health beginning to decline, his son Joseph returned home from university to take on the future of Swiss Farm. What began as a challenging time soon became a period of transformation. Over the next 27 years, Joseph and his dedicated team poured their energy into building the park guests know and love today. With a clear focus on quality touring and camping, Swiss Farm evolved into a modern, well-run destination rooted in family values and thoughtful service. Today, we’re proud to be recognised as one of the highest-rated parks in the country.

While Joseph and his team continue to lead Swiss Farm with the same passion and care that has shaped it for nearly three decades, the future remains a family one. His two young children are growing up fast and though it’s far too early to know if they’ll one day take the reins there is the strong posibility of a 4th generation at the helm. For now, the focus remains on continuing to offer the high standards and warm welcome our guests have come to expect, while carefully evolving the park for future generations to enjoy.
